Easy Orchid Plants - Miltassia Spider Star
I define “easy” orchids as those that can be grown indoors in mild climates in homes that have the heating on during the daytime in winter.
This aptly named, bigeneric hybrid combines Brassia and Miltonia, resulting in an unusual and most attractive flower sharing the shape of the former (commonly called spider orchids) and the leopard patterning of the latter. This vigorous hybrid is tolerant of a wide range of temperatures and can be acclimatized to grow in both cool and warm conditions. Because of its Brassia parent, you must provide it with plenty of light to encourage flowering, but if you are growing it in a greenhouse, be careful not to allow full sun to scorch the leaves. The plant produces pseudobulbs and flowers during spring and summer, and the flower spikes consist of six to eight blooms that will last four to five weeks.
Flower Size: 4 1/2 inches (11cm) across
Flower Spike: 15-20 inches (38-50cm)
Plant Height: 9 inches (23cm)
Pot Size: 5 inches (12cm)
