Easy Orchid Plants - Oncidium Twinkle

I define “easy” orchids as those that can be grown indoors in mild climates in homes that have the heating on during the daytime in winter.

This delightful primary hybrid was raised in Britain in 1958 as a result of crossing two epiphytic species - O. ornithorhynchum and O.cheirophorum. This former is pink flowered and the latter yellow; both are delightfully aromatic. The hybrid has inherited the fragrance and its coloring is between that of the two parents. The plant, while vigorous and extremely free flowering, is compact with small pseudobulbs and short foliage. It regularly produces two or three flower spikes from one pseudobulb during the fall. These are packed with dozens of delicate flowers, and on a large plant they can be counted in the hundreds. Because the blooms do not open all at the same time, the flowering season is extended over several weeks. Position this orchid on a cool, shady windowsill for optimum growth.
