I define “easy” orchids as those that can be grown indoors in mild climates in homes that have the heating on during the daytime in winter.

This Australian-bred hybrid from 1974 comes from a line of “Sleeping” hybrids, its parents being C. Sleeping Beauty and C. Sleeping Monarch. It is a standard Cymbidium, needing space to spread and sufficient headroom for its tall flower spikes. The plant is large and robust, with rounded pseudobulbs and several long leaves. The flower spikes appear toward the end of the summer growing season, when the pseudobulbs are maturing. The spikes grow steadily over the winter to bloom in early spring, when the flowers will last for eight weeks or more. Each flower spike can be expected to carry eight to ten gorgeous ivory-white blooms.

Flower Size: 4 1/2 inches (11 cm) across.

Flower Spike: 40 inches (1 m).

Plant Height: 2 feet (60 cm).
