Easy Orchids - Paphiopedilum King Arthur ‘Burgoyne’

I define “easy” orchids as those that can be grown indoors in mild climates in homes that have the heating on during the daytime in winter.

An ideal slipper orchid for the windowsill, with attractive, lightly mottled foliage that is spotted purple at the base, this is one of the oldest red hybrids, raised in Britain in 1915 and still going strong today. The flowers are glossy red and will last for a good six weeks or more in perfect condition. The single-flowered spikes appear from the center of the latest mature growth during later summer, and at some stage will require the support of a thin cane to keep them upright. This plant; which does not produce pseudobulbs, is a robust grower and will divide easily every three to four years. Unless a large specimen is preferred. Keep shaded in a cool to intermediate temperatures.

Flower Size: 5 inches (12cm) across

Flower Spike: 9 inches (23cm)

Plant Spread: 10 inches (25cm)

Pot Size: 5 inches (12cm)
