Fairly Easy Orchids - Miltoniopsis Elizabeth Castle

I define “fairly easy” orchids as those that, while suitable for a beginner, may not be quite as tolerant of less than ideal conditions as the “easy” orchids.

Raised in 1995 at the Eric Young Orchid Foundation in Jersey in the Channel Islands, home of the very best hybrids, this clone excels in its coloring and striking butterfly “mask.” It has been bred from a lone line of superb plants descended from the species M. vexillaria, found at high altitudes in the cloud forests of Colombia. This plant has retained the delicate fragrance of the species, which is most notable early in the day. It produces neat pseudobulbs and flowers in the early summer and, often, again later in the year. The two to four large, flat blooms per spike will last for up to three weeks. Grow in intermediate temperatures and keep moist all year round, but be careful no to overwater in the winter.
