Easy Orchid Flowers - Lemboglossum Violetta Von Holm ‘Wilma’

I define “easy” orchids as those that can be grown indoors in mild climates in homes that have the heating on during the daytime in winter.

This hybrid, formerly classified under Odontoglossum, was bred in Germany in 1994 from the species L. bictoniense and L. rossii, which gives L. Bic-Ross, and crossed back onto L. bictoniense. There are numerous clones available, the best of which is ‘Wilma,’ a charming, and compact, free-flowering plant that is easy to grow. It requires cool, airy conditions - a cool windowsill is perfect. If it is too warm it will only survive for a short time. The plant produces small pseudobulbs and blooms mostly in the spring, when the flowers - as many as twelve to eighteen to a spike - will last for up to six weeks.

Flower Size: 2 inches (5cm) across

Flower Spike: 1 1/2-2 feet (45-60cm)

Plant Height: 6 inches (15cm)

Pot Size: 4 1/2-5 inches (11-12cm)
