Easy Orchids - Degamorara Kathleen Oka

I define “easy” orchids as those that can be grown indoors in mild climates in homes that have the heating on during the daytime in winter.

This modern hybrid, raised in Hawaii in 1980, makes a large, robust plant with very large pseudobulbs and tall foliage. The flower spikes are also quite long, bearing numerous eye-catching blooms in a range of stunning colors. They appear from the mature pseudobulb at any time of the year and the blooms will last around four weeks. The plant is a cross between Brassia, creating the narrow petals and sepals, and Odontonia, itself a cross between Odontoglossum and Miltonia. D. Kathleen Oka is therefore a trigeneric cross, the result of the hybridizers’ skill in producing an entirely new an unnatural hybrid. Its vigor and tolerance enable the plant to be grown in climates, from temperate to tropical.

Flower Size: 3 inches (8cm) across

Flower Spike: 28 inches (70cm)

Plant Height: 14 inches (35cm)

Pot Size: 7 inches (18cm)
