Easy Orchids - Encyclia Fausta

I define “easy” orchids as those that can be grown indoors in mild climates in homes that have the heating on during the daytime in winter.

Discovered in Brazil in 1827, this is a delightful small species that produces sprays of pretty, fragrant white flowers with a red-lined lip. It is one of a group of similar species, all of which are worth collecting for their fragrant, early summer blooms. This one is extremely easy to grow and will do well in either cool or intermediate temperatures. The six or eight blooms on each very short spike appear from the apex of the slender pseudobulb, and they will last for up to six weeks. While a young plant fits easily onto a windowsill, within a few years it may well have outgrown the space available. By dividing plants every few years you can maintain the required size.

Flower Size: 2 inches (5cm) across

Flower Spike: 4 inches (10cm)

Plant Height: 10 inches (25cm)

Pot Size: 4 inches (10cm)
