Easy Orchid Flower - Brassada Orange Delight

I define “easy” orchids as those that can be grown indoors in mild climates in homes that have the heating on during the daytime in winter.

The superb hybrid was raised in California in 1989. It brings together the qualities of Ada and Brassia, two related genera that were first used to produce the bigeneric genus Brassada in 1970. The coloring of tis unique clone comes from A. qurantiaca, an orange-flowered species from South America, while its narrow, pointed sepals and petals are a contribution from the brassias - the spider orchids famed for their incredibly long sepals and petals. The plant is similar to an Odontoglossum, but has more elongated, neat pseudobulbs. The breeding behind this hybrid allows it to be grown in cool conditions, although in warmer climates it will tolerate higher temperatures. It also likes to be kept moist and shaded. The plant is summer flowering, and the blooms, up to six or eight on a spike, will last four to five weeks!

Flower Size: 3 1/2 inches (9cm) across

Flower Spike: 16 inches (40cm)

Plant Height: 1 foot (30cm)

Pot Size: 4 inches (10cm)
