Easy Orchids - Phalaenopsis Brother Lancer
I define “easy” orchids as those that can be grown indoors in mild climates in homes that have the heating on during the daytime in winter.
Taiwan has become the home of a large number of very fine Phalaenopsis hybrids produced to a high standard for the pot-plant trade. In addition to the more usual pink and white varieties, there are some extremely attractive patterned clones, such as P. Brother Lancer which was introduced in 1995. Here, selected breeding lines have produced a beautifully veined and striped flower, rich red on a pale background, and with a cherry-red lip. Up to eight blooms to a spike can be expected, held well above the foliage at almost any time of the year and lasting for seven to eight weeks. Grow on a warm, shady windowsill or similar position, and keep watered throughout the year.
Flower Size: 3 1/2 inches (9cm) across
Flower Spike: 10 inches (25cm)
Plant Spread: 9 inches (23cm)
Pot Size: 5 inches (12cm)
